What’s going on?

I’m 43 and have been taking birth control pills for years, but was switched to a low-dose about a year ago. This week, I forgot a pill for about 24 hours, and now I have bleeding, more like a period, not breakthrough bleeding. I’ve skipped pills before and never had breakthrough bleeding unless I forgot for an extended period of time. I’m wondering if this is just breakthrough bleeding, something related to perimenopause or something more serious.

perimenopause
Alot of times if you switch birth control pills, your body can have some bleeding, like break through bleeding, b/c your body has to adjust to the amount of hormone in the new pill compared to that of the old pill. Your new pills have a lower dosage, which means that the pills your on now could have been equivalent to that of the old pills right before you started your period, it will just take some time for your body to get used to it.
*that’s just my speculation….I’d call your Dr if you’re concerned*

contact your doc to be extra careful. You don’t want to mess around with that.Maybe you are going through the change now.I went through it at 45 an had all the symptoms you mentioned except that I wasn’t taking the pill and it scared me real bad.Good luck and prayers,Sharon W.
