Well the symptoms (peri-menopause) that I first got were waking up at night drenched in sweat, sometimes very hot during the day when it wasnt particularly hot, also bad mood swings like wanting to kill your husband when he annoys you!! Eventually I tried all the herbal things and decided to go onto HRT which suits me fine. You can go on it for a year or so until syptoms go away and you get into proper menopause. Good Luck!

Nobody ever tells you what constitutes the menopause because they think we are all too hysterical and neurotic to be given credit for some intelligence. It's like periods and pregnancy, so many people tell you you will be loopy that many women actually believe this. There are so many changes happening in middle age that honestly how can you say it's the menopause or it's an understandable reaction to the death of a parent or whatever? I'm 49 and have been stopped since last year. I feel fine, in fact its totally liberating. I had symptoms but I couldn't put my hand up and say any one of them was due to the menopause. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. If your armpits are sweaty then I would just accept that your armpits are sweaty and don't bother needlessly giving it a reason. Just wash and use a deodorant.

45 and just got told last year that I have the "medically early" onset of the menopause but "family history wise" I am right on target. Irregular or heavy periods, forgetfulness (that moment you open the cupboard door and wonder why you were in there), feeling bloated, not feeling hungry then suddenly wanting to eat everything in the cupboard particularly just before your period. Hot sweats in my case I get them from the head down and if you didnt know me you would think I had just got out of the shower. One minute they are not there and the next whoosh. You can also get hot flushes (flashes) to me these feel like I am being cooked from the inside out they feel very strange.
Oh and overnight you can literally develope an extra waistline I woke up one more with what I can only describe as a tyre round my waist and it wasnt there the day before.
GPs are now reluctant to give medication mine recommended anything with Phytoestrogens in mainly for the sweats and it amazed me but it works. Superdrug do their own brand of "Menopause "tablets and they are inexpensive compared to a lot of others one a day has made a real difference. I was having the sweats everyday since taking these herbal tablets I have only had one sweat in three months. They dont work for everyone.

Yes this could be what is called a peri-menopausal symptom, akin to a hot flush.

Some women sail through the menopause and there periods just gradually stop, and that's the end of it. At the other end of the spectrum some women suffer a long miserable dragged out menopause with both physical and psychological symptoms.

The average age at the menopause is 51 years. The peri-menopause is when symptoms occur, they cease when the patient is post-menopausal. At worst the symptomatic peri-menopause can last 10 years!

The main symptoms are irregular bleeding, hot flushes and night sweats, likely due to a combination of hormonal and biochemical fluctuations brought on by declining oestrogen levels. The vagina become thinner, less elastic and drier, this can increase UTI risk. There can also be emotional changes and deterioration in memory. weight gain, increase in wrinkles and acne can also occur and sometimes husuitism, facial hair growth.

Sweating armpits--irregular periods---are you doing drugs or alcohol. These are not the onset of mense. When you start going thru the change you will know it---your periods will be long or short, you will have more or less, you will pass clots that scare you, you will need a mack truck on your bottom when you go to bed--or you will just skate thru. No one does any real research on women and all aspects of the final periods remain a mystery and many women won't even discuss it. Sweating armpits are not a hot flash---that is dizzy, then burning up all over, or freezing then shaking and then hot all over. Talk to your mom, then go to a doc.

Irregularities in your menstrual cycle
hot flushes
fainting
food intolerences
mood changes
concentration lapses
difficulty in maintaining relationships
My aunt was menopausal at 19 and it took two years of psychiatrists to diagnose!!!!

(look under depression - the symptoms are very similar)
