one of the signs is vomiting although she may be ill.
Tell your friend to take her to the vet

Definately the early stages of pregnancy.

    I would know from experience.

    Now your next step.

Call your vet and schedule and ultrasound.
This is how you will find out how many she is having.

Then — she will need to go back a week before she is due to get x-rays to get an exact amount of puppies.

Do lots of reading and research.

Also when was she bred? The vet will ask you this. Count about 53 days from that date. A week before she is due take her temperature Twice a day. Her temp will drop a few degrees before she goes into labor. My dogs dropped to 97 point something. Mine delivered a week early so I thought the thermometer wasn’t working when I read the temperature. Low and behold she gave birth the next morning.

Don’t listen to these people who say she is in heat. Yes she is in heat when she had sex .. but after her heat is supposed to be over she souldn’t be laying around. I have a very active Rat Terrier. I knew something was wrong when she would not respond when I asked her to go for a walk. Right then and there was a wakeup call that she was pregnant. She also had mood swings the entire pregnancy. She vomited the first few weeks of pregnancy. When dogs have sex they get stuck for at least 20 minutes. Messing around is when he tries to hump her but doesn’t get it in. My dogs had sex 2 times and she got pregnant.

Just make sure she gets fixed after she has the puppies. Also tell your friend to get hers fixed. When my dog had the c-section I just told them to fix her. Heat isn’t a fun thing for a dog to go through if it’s not necessary.

She could just being going through a heat cycle. If she is spayed, she for sure is not. If you are really worried take her to the vet or someone who has had puppies before. If her breasts are larger, than she might be. Though you can’t really tell unless you have been trained. Hope I helped, good luck with your might be mother dog.

Swollen abdomen and vulva are signs of pregnancy but take her to the vet for an ultrasound or blood test to confirm it.
