Nose bleeds related to menopause?
hoangnkarina asked:
Are nose bleeds common in perimenopausal / menopausal women? I am asking because my cousin has never had a nose bleed in her life and is now getting them intermittently every few months and perimenopausal. She is completely healthy otherwise and has 3 healthy boys. Has anyone had this symptom?

No, this is not related. This could be simply because of nose picking, consequent to nasal infection, which must be avoided.

Nose bleeding is not common in menopausal women that medical research has shown so far. Sometimes with hormonal changes, skin can become drier, the weather can also effect this. Hot dry weather can cause nosebleeds in a lot of people. It could be totally unrelated to menopause. Some perimenopausal and menopausal women take supplements (although not in pill form) but in the form of soup (dong quai etc) and studies have shown that some of the herbs used in Asian and East Asian cooking as far as soup for certain times can cause nose bleeding in some people. She should ask her doctor more about it.
