I’ve been on my period for six weeks now. It lightens up but has been pretty steady. Why is this happening?!

gigi_061665 asked:

No stress, nothing major going on. Is it possible that I’m experiencing perimenopause at 36 and this is why? What could possibly be causing this nuisance?! Thanks!

You poor thing! If you’ve been bleeding for six weeks straight it’s a wonder you have enough strength/energy to stand on your own. It is possible that you are perimenopausal. You should make an appt with your gyn sooner than later. Bleeding for this long is not normal and I would imagine at this point you are most likely anemic. Good luck to you!

Have you been drinking alchohol steadily? This could increase your blood flow and inhibit your bloodstream’s clotting capacity.
My mother drank like a fish and every month she would have this problem..she even had to go to the E.R. a couple of times.
Also, it might not me your menses at all; you could have veriocose veins, or even polyps in your uterus.
Best thing is to go to your gyno and have her do some looking around, she’ll know for sure! And don’t wait either, if it’s polyps–that hints that you might have problems with cancer in the future.
    Good luck hun!

6 weeks?? My dear, you need to go to a doctor asap! 6 weeks of bleeding is not normal, no matter what the circumstance. If it’s been only little bits of blood, I doubt anything serious could be wrong. But if you’re experiencing a heavier “flow”, then that’s worrying. Keep in mind the way the menstrual cycle works. It’s not ‘bleeding’ so much as expelling the lining. Once that lining’s gone, you have to wait a month for it to regenerate.

you need to see a doctor. You haven’t started Depo Provera have you? If so that is the answer. If not see a doctor. Bleeding that long can cause problems.

The only time I ever heard of anybody bleeding this long was when my mothers next door neighborhood talked about how she had a miscarriage. She said she just kept bleeding for 6 weeks and when she went to the doc he told her that she had a miscarriage, she didn’t even know she was pregnant.
