I am 43; had mostly spotty period (some heavier) for more than 2 weeks?

poorlady asked:

I am so scared. I have had normal periods all my life. I am not on birth control at all. On June 22, I started my period pretty much on the right day but I had been having this feeling that something was a little odd because I had no “pms” and I had a little more mucus discharge than usual up to that point. I just kept spotting for a few days and then it went to a moderate flow briefly and then back to spotting or light. It had a lot of mucus in it. I had a little more cramping than usual. I think it may have finally stopped but my breasts have been sore the whole time. I went to the doctor yesterday and they did a preg. test; it was negative. She did a pap smear and had me get some blood tests. She said either I was pregnant or in perimenopause or maybe have low thyroid. I told her I had 2 miscarriages before. She said if I am pregnant and having bleeding that I will probably have a miscarriage. I do not want to be pregnant. How can I be pregnant when some of the period had small clumps/weird looking stuff? Maybe I had a miscarriage already? Why are my breasts still sore then? I’ll be getting an ultrasound but they couldn’t get me in for a whole week. I’m so scared I can’t really live or think right. I need some kind words.

Kind words i can give. =)

Don’t panic yet, ok? It is most likely that you’re perimenopausal. All kinds of weird things can happen during that time.

So don’t worry. Assume it’s menopause for now. And then if you have bigger issues to deal with, deal with them later. Don’t worry yourself unnecessarily now.

OK? Breathe easy. Find something pleasant to do and give it to God.

Welcome to the change, now is the time to begin planning your attack game. Research the estrogen patch and other available medical helpmates. Lest you wish for brittle bones and a mustache, heh. Your symptoms are typical menopausal indications. These menstrual incidents can go on for years, some women limit these issues by taking the pill later in life. Have a nice decade and enjoy the upcoming hot flashes.

Take a few deep breaths. Your pregnancy test was negative. If you were pregnant, it would have showed up on the test. At your age, you are very likely to be in perimenopause. Your period will probably get weirder as time goes on. You can either live with it (getting all worried every month), or go on the pill to alleviate your symptoms. I wouldn’t be worried abou the clumps and weird stuff. As blood pools and sits inside for a while it can clot/clump and look pretty weird. It doesn’ t mean that you were necessarily passing fetal tissue. The sore breasts can have to do with the hormonal changes you could be possibly experiencing due to potential perimenopause. Good luck I hope your ultrasound is soon. Maybe you could get on a waiting list.
