Hot flashes for the last 4-6 weeks, period two weeks late,done with having periods or is this just the start?

You are just STARTING perimenopause. You may have several years to go yet before you period is totally done and you are menopausal.

peri-menopause yes, could take 2 years or more before actually reaching menopause

Just the beginning of the end. I had irregular and skipped ones for years, or some that would last 2 weeks quit a week and begin again. Then I skipped 3 months, started again and like clock work for 4 months, bam, never had another one. It took me over 6 years–I was finished at 47.
If it gets too much your doc can put you on some birth control pills to lessen the flashes.
I only had flashes the last year or two.
