Has anyone out there in their 40′s taken Loestrin 24 fe birth control and are you happy with it? Problems?

Linda M asked:

I am getting ready to start the Loestrin 24 fe birth control pill and see lots of negative comments about it on the web. I am in my 40′s and having issues with mood disorders related to perimenopause and my doctor is recommending this pill. I am looking for feedback from other women in their 40′s.

I’m sorry, I feel very strongly against women in their 40′s taking ANY form of BC. You are at such high risk of heart attack and stroke…..believe me I am an ER nurse….I’ve seen them as young as in their 20′s. I’m in my 40′s and my doctor has me on topamax….it is not really intended for mood but a side effect just happens to be mood elevation (and weight loss) It is working wonders for me. My mood has been much better. I would NOT take any hormones what so ever. I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer. My mother also had breast ca around my age because of estrogen. I just think it’s a bad idea. A couple of great web sites are and check them out and good luck
