Caffiene.what’s the best way to wean yourself off from it?

PURR GIRL TORI asked:

I’ve been told by my gynocologist that caffiene is especially bad for me because I am experiencing intense hot flashes (I am in perimenopause) I am sick of the hot flashes. Does anyone know of a safe way I can kick caffiene? I really hate to do this, but if it will help me healthwise, I will do it.
1. One cannot go cold turkey from caffiene addiction. I’ve tried it, and the headaches are horrific! 2. I am a heavy coffee drinker. Damn, I’m going to miss my coffee! (well, I’ll need a new vice, ha)
I am very serious about kicking this. If it’s going to improve my health – and according to my gynocologist, this will cut my suffering in half if I get rid of caffiene. I didn’t mean to make light of it.

Just drink a little less each day so that your body can adjust to it.

COLD TURKEY IS THE BEST WAY, BUT SINCE YOU’RE ADDICTED TO IT BE PREPARED TO FEEL REALLY LOUSY FOR A FEW DAYS.
DON’T EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING CONTAINING CAFFEINE…AND YES THIS MEANS CHOCOLATE TOO. ;-(

During my pregnancies I wean myself from the sugar & caffeine to benefit the baby (and myself since I get gestational diabetes). I normally drink about 5 cans of soda a day.

I started by switching 3 of those cans to diet. Once used to that I switched to diet caffeine free drinks. By 5 months I had switched all but 1 can.

Watch out when you switch or stop though. Remember that caffeine as a drug, and an addiction. You will go through withdrawals. I had extremely sever migraines at first.

I get them now sometimes, and its usually when I have gone 2-3 days without a soda.

    Keep the IB Profin handy.
