Birth control pill question, women only please?

Liz asked:

I am 32 and have been on Birth control pills for about two years now to help symptoms of perimenopause(hot flashes, anxiety, insomnia)I have three kids.I have never missed apill the entire time I have taken them,I take them at approximately the same time every night, and have had my withdrawel bleed every sugar pill week.My question is,and please don’t think I am stupid, could I still get pregnant??Even with the bleeding on the week off?The reason I ask is that for the past month I have felt odd,I had some nausea, more emotional, and have a bit of weight gain around my middle.Everything in me says I am not pregnant-that it is just the perimenopause, but is it even possible. If I keep feeling this way I am going to go take a pregnancy test, but I just feel silly even thinking about it.Respectful kind answers only please.GOD-bless——Oh and can BCP make you feel pregnant?

birth control tricks your body into thinking it’s pregnant.
i’m 16 an i’ve been on depo for about a year.
i’ve gained weight, had morning sickness, and felt nauseia.
and my doctor said repeatedly i was not pregnant.
since the body thinks its pregnant it stores more food for the baby that isn’t there.
i’d say get one test and if it’s negative, just work out a bit.

I think the pill is like 99% effective when taken correctly (as you have done), so there is a very tiny chance that you could be pregnant. if you are worried go to a doctor to find out. he will be able to tell you more than a pregnancy test and he may be able to help you with the nausea and emotions if it isnt caused by pregnancy.

    Good Luck! =]

Nothing is 100% effective. I’d go ahead and take a pregnancy test. My husband was conceived while his mom was on BCP. She was on it for almost the whole first trimester before she realized she was pregnant. My husband has a couple birth defects…not sure if its because his mom was still on the pill while she was pregnant, but worth checking just to make sure.

Listen to your body. Even if its not pregnancy, something is wrong and its worth seeing a doctor.
